CieLJ Weekend: Club Punta Fuego

We wanted to go out of town, but since it’s too late in the game for me to book tickets, airfares were already crazy expensive and I had to settle for a place that will just be a drive away.

My husband wanted to drive North, while I am more loyal to the South …of course I won, teehee!

I narrowed my choices to three:

Laiya resorts (just because there will be full board meals and I’m lazy like that)
Pico de Loro, and
Club Punta Fuego

Pico de Loro got crossed out because …I honestly can’t remember, probably because of the reviews

Laiya got booted out since we will be going there 2 weeks later anyways,

so that leaves us with Club Punta Fuego. Excellent Choice!

I booked our rooms through Expedia, it was also available through Agoda, but at the time Expedia had the room type that I want, and it was cheaper by a couple of hundred.

We didn’t really get lost; it’s a fairly decent drive. We took the Tagaytay route, on to Nasugbu Town Proper and it will be an easy drive from there. Slowly the houses will be replaced by landscapes, and the road will be a bit more uphill. Canyon Cove will be to your left, as well as Terrazas de Punta Fuego, just keep on going,  follow the signage for ‘Pico de Loro,’ to make it easier. Probably 10 minutes more up and down the hill, and keep your eyes peeled for that one small sign for Club Punta Fuego where you’ll need to turn left. A word of caution the road humps are high in that area, drive slowly. Just stay on the road and you will reach the gates of Club Punta Fuego, luxury and exclusivity begins!

We parked in front of the main clubhouse and checked-in to our room. We booked a sunset suite, there are casitas also available and I think those are more popular because of the floor space, but they got me interested to the hotel like suites because of the ‘balcony.’ I’m such a sucker for that small space with a view. The sunset suite rocks!!

awesome view!

My initial fear when I booked was it will be boring. Probably more of a place for quiet time, but there’s a fair amount of activities that you can do and it didn’t get boring for us. There are three pools, the double infinity pool at the main clubhouse, an infinity pool at the upper beach club and the family pool located at the lower beach club. Take advantage of the game room and also check out the movie schedule for the evening. It was definitely relaxing; something that we wouldn’t have gotten if we went to Laiya or Boracay.

The fact that there weren’t a lot of people around, and everything was available was great. Sans another foreign couple sunbathing on the side, we were the only ones swimming in their huge double infinity pool. The beach was also decent, there’s a shallow area that can still be good for kids. We also didn’t need to drive around; there was a shuttle that will take you to the different areas of the club with around 15 minute intervals.

There's a good selection of water activities available, including Fun Dive (Php 2,000), Banana Boat (Php 1,800), Kayak (Php 400), and Jet Ski (Php 1,200).

They also have the Ylang-Ylang Spa, with a good variety of relaxing treatments. The 75 minutes Signature massage costs Php 1,300 for guests, while the 45 minute foot and hand therapeutic massage costs Php 750. They also offer facials using Pevonia products, ranging from Php 1,900 to Php 2,400.

I didn’t expect buffet for breakfast, and I will suggest that shouldn’t expect one either, LOL! They will serve the breakfast buffet style depending on the number of guests, we were lucky enough that for both mornings we had the buffet set-up, had the guest count been lower, they will only serve set meals. So what IS for breakfast? Definitely rice, a couple of traditional Filipino viands like tapa, longanissa, hotdog, danggit or something like that. Some bread, eggs, a couple of types of cheese, choices of juice, brewed coffee and Batangas chocolate drink. Some reviews I’ve read said there’s an egg station, we didn’t have that, but seriously, I’m happy enough that it’s buffet.

Lunch, Dinner and snacks in between were a different story. Outside food is not allowed to be brought in, and unfortunately food inside the club can be expensive. For our first night, we were too lazy to get out of our lovely room and we just wanted to veg out. We had some leftover from Hawaiian BBQ but there’s no microwave in our room so I had to get creative in heating the ribs. For lunch, we ate at the restaurant near the Lower Beach Club called Il Jardineto, they serve good Italian food of pizza and pasta. As for dinner, LJ needed pain medication around 5pm, and it’s not available at the clinic, they offered to get it for us (aren’t they nice?) and the driver will be back in a couple of hours, but we opted to drive instead. It was a good excuse to get to town and grab something to eat. I regretted this decision though, it was the town fiesta and the roads that were already narrow, were filled with people. The drive back to the club at night was also scary, there were dim and at times no street lights at all going through the curved uphill roads and it’s difficult to navigate with trucks carrying construction materials running at 20kph. I was very thankful when we were finally back at the club!

As for the crowd (if there’s even a crowd, LOL!), I’m not sure if the place is just so big that you don’t really bump into a lot of people except for breakfast. I mean, we see people having breakfast, but it’s very rare that we will be in the same place as them again later that day. It’s awesome! This is a great place to stay in when you just want to tune out but still have wi-fi :)

Do check it out... love it for the ambiance, hate it maybe for the long travel time? but I think it's a place that you should at least stay in at least once.
