overnight voyage from Batangas to Caticlan |
We skipped the plane, and decided to take the long route -- by sea! It does have its pros and cons just like traveling by air, so just to make sure you really want to do this. Here are a few reminders before I post about the "How To's"
1. You can't be in a hurry. This is not the quickest route, I'm not talking about the travel time, that's a given. We are talking "delays." Your flight on average, gets delayed 15 minutes to an hour. Our ferry got delayed docking to Caticlan by almost 3 hours.
2. You need to like people, but at the same time you need to mind your own business. There will be A LOT of folks walking around, eating, chatting, sleeping, drinking, kids crying, teenagers laughing, parents arguing (got the picture?). There won't be a lot of 'quiet spots.' You don't need to be chatty or too friendly, some people just wants to mind their own business too. There will be a lot of new things that you will see and hear and that's ok -- Just try your best not to stare and you'll be fine.
3. Keep an open mind. If you are a first timer like us, and you are ok with the first two reminders then you should be fine. Just savor the moment, from the terminal, to the bunk assignment and food. If you are sensitive about your food, you can stock up on your baon for dinner and snacks. There will be a lot of waiting, you can prep all you electronics to help you past the time, or maybe a bring a good book, but for us, people watching helped keep the boredom at bay. Again, reminder #2, do not stare! :D
Ready? I'll be posting our "How to's" tomorrow, see yah then! :D
